WSST DOLPHINS 2024 JUNIOR COACHING PROGRAM
The West Sacramento Dolphins Swim Team is proud to continue our Junior Coaching Program. With this program, select high school swimmers will have an opportunity to work with our coaching staff to further their own skills while obtaining hands-on coaching experience. Each candidate will go through a screening process to verify that all program eligibility requirements are met. We will be accepting applications from any high school student that is a registered member of the Dolphins swim program.
Purpose: To encourage high school swimmers to become a greater part of the team and learn the joys of coaching swim. Moreover, one of the goals of the program is to develop, assess and train future coaches, program participants may have an opportunity to fill any assistant coaching job vacancies.
Job Responsibilities
1.
Assist mentor coaches with daily swim instruction as needed
2.
Provide a positive role model for all swimmers
3.
Be available to demonstrate any in-water drills as needed
4.
Assist any coach during practice as needed
5.
Assist any coach during swim meets as needed
6.
Demonstrate core values of the Dolphins at all times
7.
Be receptive to continuous learning opportunities online or in person
Requirements:
1.
Must be a minimum of 14 years old and a current high school student
2.
Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA with school verification
3.
At the end of the school year, Junior Coach to provide updated grade report to Head Coach and Vice President to confirm final GPA.
4.
Must attend at least 2-3 practices a week as a Junior Coach, per schedule set by Coaching staff
5.
Must attend at least 3 practices a week as a swimmer*
6.
Swimmer must have parental approval to participate in Junior Coach program
7.
Must have an outgoing personality
8.
Must attend all Conference meets and both days of the Championship meet as a swimmer and as a coach, unless prior notice is provided to Head Coach and Vice President
9.
Be able to follow a daily plan set by Mentor Coach/Head Coach
10.Be accountable for all actions and behaviors while performing coaching duties, including review, and execution of Junior Coach Agreement to abide by the requirements
Dismissal from Program:
1. If a junior coach’s grades drop below 3.0 for the last semester/trimester, they will be removed from the coaching program
2. If a junior coach is involved with any activity involving alcohol or drugs, they will be removed from the coaching program
3. If a junior coach acts in a manner deemed to be inappropriate for any Dolphin swimmer of any age group, they will be counseled/dismissed from program
How to Apply:
Each candidate must write a paragraph explaining why they want to become a Junior Coach and what they expect to get out of the program. Please include any previous coaching experience and all past/current swimming experience. Along with the written paragraph for application, candidate must provide a school-verified print-out of current grades.

* Mandatory 3 weekly practice requirement begins once the 2023 High School Season has been
completed. Any school-related projects, injuries, programs, or outside job opportunities that may otherwise prevent the candidate from actively participating in three practices a week as a swimmer must be discussed with and cleared by the Head Coach.
